iOS 16 will Reportedly Bring an Always-On Display Exclusive to iPhone 14 Pro Models

iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro Max

Apple’s WWDC 2022 is only a week away and the company is expected to announce the iOS 16 and the features it will be coming with. Before the annual developer conference takes place, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurnman has shared some of what to expect from the iOS 16 including an always-on display mode exclusive to future iPhones starting with the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models.

Gurman suggests the iOS 16 will pack a host of new features into the iPhone, and will also make multitasking easier on the iPad. Apple is reportedly planning a major overhaul of the lock screen which will include wallpapers with widget-like capabilities. This should make the iPhone lock screen less boring since users have to unlock the phone to access notifications properly.

According to the Bloomberg report, an always-on lock screen has been in the works for a while and Apple originally planned to debut the feature on the iPhone 13. iOS 16 will now bring an always-on lock screen mode to the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models, a feature that will let the lock screen display quickly glanceable information and notifications without fully waking up the phone. Always-On mode has been available on many Android phones for a long time and the feature will be a welcome addition to the iPhone’s display.

Other features expected to come with iOS 16 are “social network-like” improvements to Messages, especially for audio messages. The Health app is also expected to get new features that will integrate with the Apple Watch.

Apple’s WWDC 2022 begins Monday, June 6th and ends on Friday, June 10th. Apple will reveal all features coming to the iOS 16 and its launch date. Meanwhile, the new iPhone models are not expected to be released until September.
