Instagram Rolls Out GIF Comments in Posts and Reels to All Users

Instagram take a break

If you thought seeing GIFs in comments on Instagram was annoying, it’s about to get even messier. On Wednesday, Meta announced that it is rolling out GIF comments on posts and Reels to everyone globally. The feature was available only to a few users in a limited test.

Whether you’ve watched a funny reel or want to show love on a friend’s new post, you can now post a GIF as a comment on Instagram! This is a fun way to engage with posts and reels from your friends and favourite creators,” Meta shared.

To post GIFs in comments on Instagram, open the comment section and tap on the GIF icon to the right of the text box. This opens up the GIFPHY library, and when users tap on any GIF, it appears as a comment.

In April, Instagram released new editing tools for Reels that bring video clips, audio, stickers and text together on the editing screen. In the “next few weeks,” creators globally will get more updates to make them more creative with Reels. The upcoming updates include the following:

  • Split: Easily split a single clip into two clips
  • Speed: Speed up or slow down your clips
  • Replace: Swap one clip out for another without changing the timing or order of other clips, audio and other elements in your reel.

The company announced the new updates as part of a creators’ workshop in Mumbai, India. In April, the company rolled out an update that allows creators to add up to five links in their bio.
