OpenAI has launched a free ChatGPT app on iOS, and it is available for download on the App Store on the iPhone and iPad. The app is available only in the US for now, and it will be expanded to more countries “in the coming weeks.”
“With the ChatGPT app for iOS, we’re taking another step towards our mission by transforming state-of-the-art research into useful tools that empower people, while continuously making them more accessible,” OpenAI shared in a blog post.
The ChatGPT app on iOS accepts voice inputs, thanks to Whisper – the company’s open-source speech recognition system. Open AI says subscribers of its $20-a-month ChatGPT Plus will get early access to features and faster response time for GPT-4 on the iOS app. While the iOS app is made natively for the iPhone, it works with the iPad and upscales to a tablet size to accommodate the iPad’s screen.
OpenAI did not give a timeline for its Android release but said, “it will be coming to your devices soon.” Android users can still use the ChatGPT web version like everyone else.
