After originally teasing the next God of War game at a PlayStation 5 Showcase in September 2020, Sony finally unveiled a reveal trailer for the game today at its PlayStation Showcase. The game was originally scheduled to be released in late 2021 but it was delayed till 2022 in June and it will also be released on the PS4.

God of War Ragnarök continues a few years of the events of the 2018 game. Kratos, Atreus and Mimir face a challenging journey more than ever as the freezing winds of Fimbulwinter are now all over Midgard.

“While the last game built an enormous amount of trust and understanding between father and son, there is still a great deal of complexity in their interactions – especially after the revelation of Atreus’ Giant heritage and the hidden prophecy only Kratos saw,” Grace Orlady, Senior Community Manager at Santa Monica Studio wrote in a PlayStation blog post. “Atreus is desperately curious. Like most young people, he wants to understand who he is more than anything. In this case, he wants to understand who he could be. The mystery of Loki’s role in the upcoming conflict is something that Atreus cannot let go of. He wants to keep his family safe, but Atreus also doesn’t want to stand by and do nothing while conflict consumes the Nine Realms.”

Kratos is set to face Thor and Freya and the two gods seek vengeance after suffering the loss of their loved ones. The reveal trailer also gave a hint of the exciting battles can expect to face with Kratos and Atreus.

With an expanded cast of adversaries, we aim to keep each combat encounter memorable from the smallest brawls to the big show-stopper bosses! We can’t wait to show you more as we get closer to release,” developers Santa Monica Studio said.
