Facebook Introduces Group Payments in Messenger

Facebook in a blog post announced it is introducing group payments in Messenger. This new update allows users to send and receive payments in groups while on Messenger.

Facebook’s Product Manager for Consumer Payments, Partha Sundaram, posted in the blog post:

Starting today for Android and desktop, you can send or receive money between groups of people on Messenger. It’s free, simple, fast and secure. Whether you’re splitting a restaurant bill or chipping in for a group gift, all you need to do is go to a new or existing Messenger group conversation to get started.

How to Make Group Payments in Messenger

  • Make sure your Messenger app is up to date, if not, go to Google PlayStore and update. The feature is only available on Android and desktop for now.
  • Open a group conversation on the Messenger app and tap on the plus (+) icon in the bottom left corner.
  • Tap on More features and further tap the payments icon ($).
  • Choose who you want to send or request money from, you can select as many persons as you want at once.
  • Enter the amount you want to request or send and specify purpose of payment.
  • Finally, tap on Request.

Partha Sundaram further stated;

To make it super simple to keep track of everything, a message will appear in the group conversation showing who has paid. At any time, you can also view the Request Details in full-screen. Coordinating group payments has never been easier.

This new feature on Messenger is only available in US for now and will be getting to other countries later. Facebook says the service is free to use and your debit card information are safe with them.
