DJI on Wednesday announced its latest smartphone gimbal, the OM 5. The OM 5 succeeds the Osmo Mobile 4 and now has a compact design with a built-in extension rod making it double as a selfie stick.
“With the iterations of the DJI OM smartphone stabilizers over the years, we have been aiming to lower the threshold of professional and high-quality shooting by offering users more accessible and helpful tools for their everyday activities,” DJI’s Senior Product Line Manager Paul Pan said in a press release. “For those who rely on their smartphones, the DJI OM 5 is your ultimate compact, technologically advanced gimbal – any time you want to create footage of your most memorable moments.”
The OM 5 is now smaller and lighter and features a 3-axis gimbal technology for making smooth cinematic videos. Thanks to the DJI Mimo app, the OM 5 has so many functionalities that let the user capture videos and images from different angles. There is a new ShotGuides feature that has 30 sets of pre-set shooting tutorials and also lets you edit instantly so you get those cinematic videos out quickly. The DJI OM 5 has a newly updated ActiveTrack 4.0 which now supports tracking at up to 3x zoom at 5 m/s, it can now identify subjects accurately in the centre of the frame while shooting.
There are other features including DynamicZoom, which recreates the dramatic dolly zoom look, timelapse, panoramas, motionlapse, and hyperlapse modes, spin shot gimbal movement, story mode templates, and glamour effects. There are preset automatic movements done by the gimbal to achieve some of these shots.
There is now a new Fill Light Phone Clamp accessory with built-in auxiliary light that produces glows when shooting photos and videos.
DJI OM 5 is available in Sunset White and Athens Gray colour options. It retails for $159 and the optional Fill Light Phone Clamp accessory can be added for $59.
