DJI Announces Mini 2 Drone with 4K Video and RAW Photos for $499

DJI Mavic Mini

DJI has updated its drone lineup with the announcement of the Mini 2, the new mini aircraft succeeds last year’s Mavic Mini which is the smallest and lightest fully functional drone in the market. DJI Mini 2 shares the same design with the Mavic Mini but adds much-needed features to address its deficiencies.

Despite adding more features from last year, DJI managed to keep the weight of the Mini 2 under 249g which means you won’t have to register it with the FAA. The Mini 2 ditches Wi-Fi connectivity and comes with DJI’s OcuSync 2.0 video transmission which provides up to 2.5 wireless range and 10km of HD video transmission with clearer sight when flying. The drone uses the DJI Fly app as well as the new controller which debuted alongside the Mavic Air 2 released earlier this year.

One of the biggest upgrades again comes in the camera department with the Mini 2 now capable of 4K videos at 30fps at 100Mbps bitrate; this is massive upgrade from the Mavic Mini which could only shoot 2.7K, 25/30p at 40Mbps. The 4K camera is built on a 3-axis gimbal which is capable 4x zoom when shooting videos; the drone is also shoots 1080p at 60fps. When taking photos, DJI has added RAW option and users can now do auto exposure bracketing. The camera sensor is still ½.3-inch in size just like the Mavic Mini which means it’s still only meant to be used a hobby drone and not for real professionals.

The drone comes with Intelligent Flight Modes, QuickShots and it is now capable of 31mins of flight time with a stronger battery capacity. DJI says it can resist up to 29-38kph winds and take off at a max altitude of 4,000 meters.

DJI Mini 2 will set you back by $449, that’s $50 more than last year’s Mavic Mini. Considering the added features, that looks like a fair price. If you want the Fly More Combo which comes with three batteries, three propellers, a charging hub and a shoulder bag, you will have to pay $599. You can purchase the drone on DJI’s website.
