Death Stranding Director’s Cut Launches September 24 on the PS5

the game awards 2019 - death stranding nominations

Revealed in June with a short trailer, yesterday’s State of Play finally gave us more details about Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding Director’s Cut coming to the PS5. The game has been fully remastered and expanded for PS5 consoles and it launches September 24, 2021.

In a PlayStation Blog post, Jay Boor, Head of Publishing at Kojima Productions said the Director’s Cut “is packed with a ton of new content and enhanced gameplay features. We are introducing more weapons, equipment and vehicles, a variety of new modes, missions and areas to explore, expanded storylines, and enhancements to the UI. We will also be adding new online features including Friend Play and Leaderboards.”

The game was “all built and developed from the ground” for the PS5 including all the new content coming to it, such as the firing range area, additional missions and a new racing mode. All the Half-Life and Cyberpunk 2077 content introduced to the game’s PC version will be available on the PS5’s Director’s Cut.

The PS4 save data from the original game will be transferrable to the PS5, which means players can continue where they left off on the PS4 or start a new game plus on the PS5 version. As expected, Death Stranding Director’s Cut will fully support the DualSense controller, it will also be available in two graphics modes – Performance mode with upscaled 4K up to 60fps or Fidelity mode in native 4K (both comes with ultra-wide and HDR support).

Those who already own the PS4 version of Death Stranding can upgrade to the Director’s Cut Digital Deluxe Edition on the PS5 for $10. A fresh purchase for PS5 owners will cost $49.99 for the Standard Edition and $59.99 for the Digital Deluxe Edition.
