After several rumours, Activision Blizzard has confirmed Modern Warfare III as the next Call of Duty title, and it will be released on November 10th. Sledgehammer Games will develop the next instalment in the popular gaming franchise, and it will be released on consoles and PC.
The teaser video for the announcement does not reveal much except for a voice-over and the familiar faces of Captain Price and Vladimir Makarov. In July, Activision indicated that players could transfer operators, weapons and bundles from Modern Warfare II to this year’s Call of Duty game. This all but confirmed the rumours that the next title would be Modern Warfare III.
In February, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reported that the company was skipping a mainline release of Call of Duty in 2023, but later clarified that the game will be “an expansion” of last year’s Modern Warfare II with “campaign stuff.”
Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard is expected to be closed soon, with the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) the only stumbling block. Microsoft has submitted a final proposal to the governing body, and a final decision is expected on August 29th. If all goes well, Modern Warfare III could be the first Call of Duty title to be available at launch on Xbox Game Pass.
