Instagram is expanding on how users add music to feed posts. On Friday, in partnership with American pop star Olivia Rodrigo, the company showcased the new feature that lets users add music to photo carousels. There are also new updates to Instagram Collabs and the Add Yours sticker.
“Whether you’re sharing a collection of summer memories with friends or moments from your camera roll, you can now add music to your photo carousels,” the company shared in a news post. “Building off our launch of music for feed photos, anyone can add a song to capture the mood and bring their carousel to life.” Using the new feature, Rodrigo promoted her new single “bad idea right?” alongside a carousel of fun photos shared with her followers.
In an update to Collabs, a user can invite up to three friends to co-author a post, carousel or Reel. The company released the feature two years ago, allowing a creator to invite another collaborator to co-author feed posts and Reels. Once the collaborators accept, the post will appear on each person’s feed and profile grid. Both private and public accounts can collaborate with Instagram Collabs.

Since its release, the Add Yours sticker has provided a new way for audiences to engage with Instagram Stories; the company is now expanding the feature to Reels. When a Reel is created, a creator can add the Add Yours sticker to invite others to join the challenge or fun. Once others join in the fun, the creator can highlight some of the Reels as favourites, and they will appear on top of the challenge posts alongside the original Reels from the creator.
Finally, Instagram is expanding its music library to more countries “over the coming weeks.” The company also partners with Spotify in Mexico and Brazil “to feature 50 of the most popular songs from Instagram Reels with a new Reels Music Chart on Spotify.”
