Baby Shark” now has more than 10 billion views on YouTube, the catchy children’s tune on Pinkfong’s channel reached the milestone on Thursday, January 13th, Billboard reports. The gap between the video and Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito” grows bigger yet again, since displacing the reggaeton song as the most-viewed YouTube video of all time in November 2020.

We are delighted to announce that our beloved Baby Shark has recorded another remarkable milestone,” Min-seok Kim, CEO of “Baby Shark” creator The Pinkfong Co., said in a statement. “It has been a truly meaningful journey to witness how Baby Shark has connected people around the world, and we can’t wait to introduce Baby Shark’s further adventures that will bring unparalleled experiences to even more fans everywhere.”

Baby Shark video was released in June 2016 and it would eventually debut on Billboard Hot 100 at No. 32 on January 12, 2019. The song was certified 11-times multi-platinum by the RIAA the same month it reached 7.04 billion YouTube views to become the most viewed video on the platform after displacing 2017’s “Despacito”.

A lot of factors contributed to “Baby Shark” reaching 10 billion views on YouTube such as a viral dance challenge, celebrity covers from James Corden, Bebe Rexha and recognition from the likes of John Legend and Celine Dion.

The coverage around “Baby Shark” is not slowing down soon with Nickelodeon announcing it is working on a feature film around it. Apart from the 100-date tour in 2019, an NFT collection was also released in December 2021.
