Apple on Monday announced its latest and most powerful chipset yet designed for its Silicon Macs, the M2 processor. The M2 debuts with improved efficiency and performance over the M1, M1 Pro, M1 Max, and M1 Ultra chipsets.
The M2 is built on a 5nm process having 20 billion transistors – 25 percent more than that of the M1. The M2 delivers 50 percent more bandwidth than the M1 thanks to the help of additional transistors and a memory controller that serves 100GB/s of unified memory bandwidth.
Apple says the M2 CPU delivers 18 percent more multithreaded performance over the M1 and its GPU delivers up to 25 percent better graphics performance over the M1.
The M2 powers Apple’s new MacBook Air and the updated 13-inch Pro MacBook.
