Apple is aiming to expand its market share for laptops by producing a MacBook Air with a 15-inch screen and a new 12-inch laptop, Bloomberg reports. The new laptops will be powered by Apple’s in-house chips and they could come at the end of 2023 or early in 2024, the report says.
If Apple goes ahead to release the 15-inch screen MacBook Air next Spring, it will be the first time in 14 years that the company will be making the change to a bigger size. Apple began pulling away from Intel chips in 2020 and the company announced the M2, its latest in-house chip at the recently concluded WWDC 2022. According to Bloomberg, the MacBook accounts for 10 per cent of Apple sales and the company is aiming to increase its laptop sales with the release of the 15-inch MacBook Air and the new 12-inch laptop which will replace the 12-inch MacBook it discontinued in 2019.
Apple’s previous 12-inch laptop was released in 2015 but did not perform as expected due to keyboard issues and slow performance. Not much is known about the new 12-inch laptop in development if it will be a low or high-end device.
The Bloomberg report continues by saying Apple is expected to release an iPad Pro with a bigger screen next year that will be powered by the newly announced iPadOS 16. As expected, Apple will be announcing new 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad later this year.
