Apple, on Wednesday, at its “Far Out” event, announced the second generation of its popular AirPods Pro. The refreshed earbuds are powered by the H2 chip bringing some upgrades to the Active Noise Cancellation and a more immersive Spatial Audio.
In a press release, Apple says the new AirPods Pro now “cancels up to twice as much noise” over the original AirPods Pro, thanks to the power of the new H2 chip. The second generation now features an improved listening experience with “richer bass and crystal-clear sound across a wider range of frequencies.” Apple has also added a new small ear tip, so the earbuds fit very well into the ears.
Apple says Transparency mode is now better with the H2 chip enabling on-device processing, reducing loud environmental noise such as loud concert speakers. Spatial Audio has been designed to be more immersive, and listeners can now use the TrueDepth camera on the iPhone to create a personalized Spatial Audio profile.
With Touch control, users can control the media playback volume with a light swipe up or down on the stem of the AirPods Pro. The stem can be pressed to move to the next music and answer phone calls. The “Hey Siri” voice command also works for hands-free requests.
In terms of battery life, Apple says the second-generation AirPods Pro provides 1.5 hours of additional listening time over the original AirPods Pro. With the charging case, users can enjoy up to 30 hours of total listening time with Active Noise Cancellation, which is six hours more than the first generation.
The AirPods Pro is available for pre-order starting Friday, September 9th, at $249. It will be available in stores on September 23rd.
