Apple on Monday announced the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus which the company says is built for Apple Intelligence. The iPhone 16 come with new colours, a new Camera Control button, a 48MP Fusion camera, and a new A18 chip.

The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus feature updated designs with the latest-generation ceramic shield. iPhone 16 has a 6.1-inch screen with a Super Retina XDR display, while the iPhone 16 Plus is available in a 6.7-inch size.

Apple is going big on AI with Apple Intelligence on iPhone 16. Alongside iOS 18 which is coming later this September, Apple Intelligence brings new writing tools, that help users summarise, rewrite, and proofread Mail, Notes, Pages and third-party apps. Apple Intelligence will also help users prioritise important notifications, emails, and sensitive messages.

Last year’s action button that debuted on the iPhone 15 Pro is now available on the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. For the first time, there is a new camera control button that is touch-sensitive. Camera actions such as taking a photo, recording a video, adjusting zoom, exposure or depth of field can be performed by pressing or sliding the finger on the camera control button.

At the back of the iPhone 16 is a 48MP Fusion camera and a new 12MP ultra-wide camera. Videos can be captured in Spatial Audio for an immersive listening experience with the AirPods and Apple Vision Pro, or a surround system. There is also a new Audio Mix feature that lets users adjust sound capture as if it were recorded with positioned vocal tracks.

Apple is promising a big boost in battery life for the iPhone 16 over the previous generation. The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus starts at $799 and $899 price points with a 128GB storage base model. Preorders begin this Friday, while the phones will be available from September 20.
