Since ChatGPT was released in 2022, OpenAI required users to create an account to use the AI chatbot. In a blog post on Monday, the company announced that anyone can now access ChatGPT without creating an account.

OpenAI says the update is rolling out gradually, “with the aim to make AI accessible to anyone curious about its capabilities.” The free access is limited to the free ChatGPT which can be accessed by everyone. It does not include the paid features available to ChatGPT Plus subscribers, or the recently released text-to-video model, Sora.

In terms of privacy, free users without an account can tell OpenAI not to use their conversion to improve its language model by turning off the feature in Settings. The company said additional content safeguards are also available, including blocking prompts and generations in a “wider range of categories.”

The company also subtly revealed that ChatGPT now has more than 100 million weekly users across 185 countries of the world.
