Twitter is Testing ‘Unmentioning’ So You Can Remove Yourself from Tweets

twitter fix disappearing tweets

Twitter is testing “unmentioning”, a way to let users remove themselves from conversations they are not interested in. The company announced on Thursday that the feature is available to some users on the web, but it didn’t say when or if it was going to be made available to everyone.

How do you say “Don’t @ me,” without saying “Don’t @ me”? We’re experimenting with Unmentioning—a way to help you protect your peace and remove yourself from conversations,” the company tweeted on its Twitter Safety account.

On the web, users can unmention themselves from tweets by clicking on the three-dotted menu button that appears on a tweet. The menu pops out and there is an option to select “Leave this conversation” option. When a user leaves a conversation, they get untagged, and stop future mentions and also notifications.

The unmentioning feature will come in handy for users who do not want to be mentioned in unwanted conversations and will also prevent harassment. Earlier in the week, Twitter also announced it was working on the edit button.
