As 2018 draws to a close, Valve has published a list of the top selling games on Steam in 2018; its digital distribution platform. The list contains groups classified into tiers of sales instead of exclusive sales information.
On this list, Steam reveals 12 games that feature on it’s “Platinum” tier. This class contains the most successful games on the distribution platform. The games featured here will not shock many gamers however it gives them an idea of the type of video games that make huge sales.
It’s noteworthy that the list also has games released before this year and determines the gross revenue as compared to the sales of individual titles. For this reason, a considerable number of 2018’s highest selling games on this platform record gains via DLC and microtransactions. On the next category below Platinum, the Gold Tier, you will find 12 games. Interestingly, they feature DLC and microtransactions. The games include Kingdom Come Deliverance and Jurassic World: Evolution. Both titles are the only games from 2018. Other games on this list include The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt; Divinity: Original Sin 2; Dead by Daylight and Black Desert Online. All of which records large sales on the platform.
Next on the list is the Silver tier which has more a collection of titles from independent developers. The indie titles include favourite games such as Subnautica, Raft, Forest and Frostpunk.
Finally, the last category, the Bronze tier features 60 video games which consist of a healthy blend of various types of games including favourite RPG, The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim.
The platform’s ” End of Year” feature consists of different lists such as the top titles for every month of 2018, the top games leaving Early Acess and the highest selling VR games of 2018.
