Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part I is getting a remake that launches on the PlayStation 5 on September 2, 2022. Originally released for the PlayStation 3 nearly a decade ago, the blockbuster game was remastered for the PlayStation 4 in 2014 and the “complete remake” will now be available to PS5 owners.
Naughty Dog’s co-president Neil Druckmann appeared on Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest on Thursday where he spoke about The Last of Us Part I remake, a standalone multiplayer for The Last of Us Part II and HBO’s The Last of Us series rounding up filming.
“We’ve implemented modernized gameplay, improved controls, and expanded accessibility options in this single-player experience to allow even more individuals to enjoy the game,” Naughty Dog wrote in a PlayStation blog post about what to expect for The Last of Us Part I PS5 remake. “Effects, exploration, and combat have all been enhanced. Leveraging the PS5’s powerful hardware, we also implemented 3D Audio*, haptics, and adaptive triggers. Both returning fans and new players alike will have the opportunity to experience both The Last of Us Part I and its prequel story Left Behind in a whole new way.”
The Last of Us Part I is also in development for the PC but a release date is not out yet. The PS5 remake is available for pre-order on the PlayStation store and from authorized retailers. The Standard Edition for the game is going for $69.99 while the Digital Deluxe Edition will set you back by $79.99.
On the standalone multiplayer for The Last of Us Part II, Naughty Dog promised to share more news next year. Druckmann confirmed he directed a full episode from the upcoming HBO series and also revealed the original actors from the video game Troy Baker (Joel) and Ashley Johnson (Ellie) played significant roles in the series.
