Summer Game Fest host Geoff Keighley has announced that the event will be held as in-person for the first time ever in 2023 and will kick off on June 8th. The gaming event has been filling the void created by E3 for the past three years following its cancellations due to the pandemic.

Over the past three years, Summer Game Fest has cultivated an incredible community around the world through our digital-first events, and we’re thrilled to invite thousands of fans to experience the SGF show in-person for the first time in 2023,” Geoff Keighley said in a press release. “In keeping with tradition, we’ll have tons of exciting announcements from the developers that are pushing the games industry forward, and will once again highlight other publisher digital events, demos, and more surprises to be announced in the coming months.”

E3, a big annual trade event for the gaming industry, was canceled in 2022 due to concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021 the event returned as a digital-only following its cancellation in 2020 due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic. Since then, Keighley’s Summer Game Fest has been filling the void, and Naughty Dog used last year’s event to debut a trailer for The Last of Us Part I remake.

E3 will be making a return in 2023 as an in-person event at the Los Angeles Convention Centre just after Summer Game Fest from the 13th to 16th of June. It sets up an exciting June for gaming fans as they will be looking forward to the gaming showcase. Summer Game Fest will take place at the 6000-seat YouTube Theatre in Los Angeles, and tickets will go on sale in 2023.
