Spotify is retiring the heart icon that lets you save songs and add them to your playlist. In a blog post on Monday, the music streaming giant announced that it is “consolidating the heart icon and the Add to playlist” into one symbol – the plus button.
With Spotify’s new and improved plus button, listeners can save and select the destination for a song, playlist, or podcast with just a tap. While users may argue that the heart icon is synonymous with liking, the company says it is ditching the beloved heart icon as part of its “ongoing work to create a more intuitive experience,” and that its user research indicates the plus button “helped save time and gave users the ability to add to multiple playlists at once.”

The new plus button appears in the same position the heart icon used to be. When tapped, it turns to a green checkmark, and listeners can select the destination of the saved song or podcast by tapping on the checkmark.
The update is rolling out globally starting today on Android and iOS, and it will be available to all Spotify users in the “coming weeks.” In January, the company became the first music streaming platform to hit 200 million paid subscribers.
