Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 has been announced majorly for mid-range smartphones. The SoC has some high-end features and it’s expected to start powering devices from the first quarter of 2019. The new chipset features an advanced AI, faster cores for a great gaming experience and triple-camera support.
Though a mid-range chipset, its new Kyro 460 architecture is built around Cortex-A76 ARM cores which can only be found in flagship devices. The cores can be found in Huawei’s Kirin 980 chipset.
In terms of gaming, Snapdragon 675 chipset is made to deliver a high frame-rate gaming experience with no lag. Qualcomm said it has optimized specific games and game engines including Unity, Unreal, Messiah, and NeoX.

AI experience has also been improved with the multi-core bringing a 50% improvement in performance. “The multi-core AI Engine is designed to improve mobile devices’ ability to acquire information and become the ultimate personal assistant by capturing photos and videos, learning and adapting to a user’s voice, and optimizing battery life. Through heterogenous computing, the Hexagon DSP, Adreno GPU, and Kryo CPU– are engineered to work cooperatively to run AI applications on-device faster and more efficiently.”
Its last key feature is a new image signal processor, giving smartphones the ability to have 3 rear cameras.
Having multiple cameras seems to be a thing now with the recently released Samsung Galaxy A9 featuring four rear cameras. With the introduction of this Snapdragon 675 CPU by Qualcomm, more smartphones are expected to go that way soon.
