When Sony launched the PlayStation Portal over a year ago, it was just a dedicated remote player device that let you stream games from your PS5 console over WiFi. With a new update, Sony has added support for cloud streaming directly from its servers even if you do not have a PS5 console. The feature is still in beta, and players can stream select PS5 games with a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription.

According to Sony, cloud streaming on the PlayStation Portal will be available in the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Cyprus, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and the United States.

Players can stream over 120 PS5 games from the PS Plus catalogue up to 1080p/60fps on the PS Portal device. To stream at 720p, players would need to have an internet connection with a minimum speed of 7 Mbps. To stream at 1080p, players would need to have an internet connection with a minimum speed of 13 Mbps. Since the cloud streaming is still in beta, Sony says features such as game trials, streaming games purchased on the PS Store, and some system features will not be available.

The software update also adds additional enhancements to the PS Portal such as speaker audio output adjustment to make the volume lower when the audio level is set to a minimum, and the ability to adjust the settings of the PlayStation Link device from the PS Portal Settings menu.
