It is the beginning of 2024, and rumours of a Nintendo Switch 2 are all over the internet again. Nintendo released the Switch in 2017, and gamers are anticipating the launch of a Switch 2 that is powerful enough to rival current-gen consoles. Speculations of a Switch 2 coming soon are rife, and an industry analyst has predicted the next Switch console is coming in 2024.

GamesIndustryBiz published its annual predictions from industry experts, and one of the trusted analysts says the Nintendo Switch 2 is coming in 2024, and it will feature minor upgrades on the existing models with a price bump. Dr. Serkan Toto from Kantan Games says Nintendo was working on a “Pro” model of the Switch, but plans for it were shelved to develop the Switch 2.

I believe the next hardware will drop next year for $400,” Serkan says. “There is a high chance that games will cost more, too: $70. The next system is also likely to be an iteration rather than a revolution. Nintendo might add some bells and whistles to the device, but it will be similar to the current Switch. And because there is Pokémon, and Pokémon is associated with handheld gaming, there is no way on earth Nintendo will drop the portability feature for their next big thing.”

Another industry expert, Tom Wijman of Newzoo says the Switch 2 will launch “with a highly anticipated 3D Mario game”. He also mentioned that Nintendo will allow players to transfer their account from the Switch to the Switch 2 instead of building a library from scratch. This is a big hint that the Switch 2 will offer backwards compatibility.

So far, there has been no mention of a new console from Nintendo but it’s only a matter of time before an official announcement is made as speculations continue to rise.
