Nintendo has announced that its latest gaming console, the Switch 2, has sold more than 3.5 million units in its first four days of availability. The console was released on 5th June 2025, and the sales figure is the highest ever for any Nintendo hardware within its first four days.

With over 3.5 million units sold worldwide within its first four days, the Switch 2 is on track to meet Nintendo’s forecast of selling 15 million units in its first fiscal year by the end of March 2026. In comparison, the original Switch costs $150 less than the Switch, and it took almost a month to sell 2.7 million units worldwide.

According to video game researcher Daniel Ahmad on X, the announcement makes the Nintendo Switch 2 “the fastest-selling home video game console of all time.” The Switch 2 is performing better than Sony’s PS5, which was launched during the pandemic. Demand for Sony’s current-generation console was high, but the company struggled to keep up due to supply chain constraints. It took Sony nearly two months to ship 4.4 million units.

Nintendo has high hopes for not just the Switch 2 hardware but also its software. The company is expecting to sell 45 million Switch 2 games in its first fiscal year. Despite the success of the Switch 2 so far, Nintendo is still hoping to ship 4.5 million units of the original Switch console in the year ahead.
