On Thursday, Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced several new features coming to Instagram, including the ability to reorder posts on your grid, a way to quietly post to your profile without appearing in users’ feeds, and the option to stream songs from Spotify to your Instagram Notes.
In January, Mosseri shared a “Profile roadmap” for Instagram explaining possible upcoming updates to the platform. The ability to customise the grid was one of the features he mentioned, and the feature is finally being rolled out. Users will now have the option to re-order the posts on their grid in a way that pleases them. The feature is handy for creators interested in an aesthetically pleasing profile, and it can also be used to draw attention to some posts.

In a blog post, Mosseri says Instagram is testing a feature that allows users to quietly post to their profile without broadcasting it to everyone’s feed. The need for this feature is borne out of the thinking that “creative expression can feel intimidating,” especially when shared with a broad audience on the feed. The feature is similar to Trial Reels, released to creators in December, which lets users test experimental reels on non-followers. According to Instagram, the Trial Reels feature has been a success so far, and creators have been posting more Reels after trying it. After trying trial reels, “40% of creators started posting reels more often, and of those who did, 80% saw an increase in reels reach from non-followers,” the company says.
As for the ability to share real-time Spotify song playing to Notes, this is a new integration that provides another way for users to connect with their followers concerning their music choices.

As part of its ways to support emerging creators and artists, Instagram has announced the launch of Drafts. Drafts is “a new initiative that will invest in emerging talent and support creators and artists at critical moments in their journey,” Mosseri shared in a blog post. Instagram says it will partner with the “next-generation of creative voices” to provide “financial support, connections, co-ideation and collaboration opportunities” to emerging artists and creators.
