Earlier this year MTN acquired 800MHz frequency from Visafone, they plan to start using it to roll out 4G LTE services to some selected states in Nigeria by July. Before the year runs out a target of 1500 sites is estimated to have been connected using fibre optics.
There is no doubt big cities like Lagos and the Federal Capital territory will be amongst the chosen states. The telecommunication giant said they have carefully analysed the company’s data usage statistics to determine the states in which they will start rolling out the 4G LTE services.
In a recent conference in Johannesburg, South Africa, Mr Ferdinand Moolman, the chief executive officer stated that plans are underway for Visafone subscribers to migrate to MTN network so that they can clean up the frequency and launch the 4G LTE services.
This will definitely be a welcome development because some other African countries are already enjoying 4G LTE services. We know the Europeans are planning for 5G but this movement by MTN will go a long way in making their millions of subscribers happy in the country.
