MediaTek has announced its latest chipset, the Dimensity 820 which is an upgrade over the Dimensity 800. The new chipset brings improved GPU and CPU performance as well as support for 5G connectivity.
The chipset is built on a 7nm process with four Cortex-A76 and four A55 cores. Th A76 cores has a clock speed of 2.6GHz and it could be paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR4x RAM.
It has a Mali-G57 GPU with five cores which makes it possible for games to take advantage of the 120Hz refresh rate supported by the chipset provided it is paired with the right display panel. Its resolution is capped at 1080p+ and it is expected to power mid-range smartphones.
In terms of network, the chipset has a modem which supports dual 5G connectivity with VoNR.
Xiaomi is expected to be among the first brands to use the chipset and it is being touted to power either the RedmiK30i or the Redmi Note 10.
MediaTek has literally increased the competition in the 5G segment and I think this would be so good for the mid-range buyers.
