Instagram is testing a new feature that lets users turn off read receipts in direct message (DM) conversations. Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, and Instagram Head Adam Mosseri announced this on their Instagram Broadcast channels on Tuesday.
“If you’re someone who leaves people on read: your day has come, Zuckerberg announced on his broadcast channel. “We’re testing the ability to turn off read receipts on Instagram DMs.” Providing more clarity on his broadcast channel, Mosseri said that “soon, people will be able to choose when to let others see when they’ve read their messages.”
Mosseri shared an image of how the new feature works. A new “Read receipts” option that users can toggle on and off appears under “Privacy & Safety” settings on Instagram.
No more information was provided on the wide rollout of the feature or its global availability. Mosseri said “You asked, we listed” which means the feature is highly requested and the wide rollout should be expected soon.
