Instagram’s ‘Playback’ Lets You Relive Your Favourite 2021 Stories

It took many years but Instagram is officially jumping on the year-in-review trend Facebook has been doing for a while. The Meta-owned platform today announced the launch of Playback, a new feature that lets you see your favourite Stories from 2021 all over again.

In a blog post, Instagram describes Playback as “a brand-new end-of-year feature in IG Stories that will give people a chance to reflect on their year and the highlights they shared through Instagram Stories, as well as who they shared them with and everything they explored.”

Users will see a notification at the top of their feed containing the best Stories from 2021 which Instagram has automatically curated. All users will be able to edit, remove or add Stories of their choice from the Stories archive before they share. Another for users to access Playback is by viewing a follower’s 2021 Playback and tapping on the ‘2021’ sticker to create their own recap.

Facebook launched year-in-review in 2016, a personalized video for every user that contains their top moments from the year. Instagram users resorted to third-party applications to create a top nine end-of-year photo grid which they’ve been sharing on their feed in years past. Spotify’s end of the year Wrapped which lets its subscribers see their top songs and artists for the year has become a great marketing tool for the company while Apple Music users look in disdain while managing the not-so-good Replay.

Playback is rolling out now and it will be available to use for a few weeks according to Instagram.
