Instagram Introduces Auto-Caption to Stories with a Sticker

Instagram Stories Captions

Instagram has added the option to caption Stories. The Facebook-owned app has added a caption sticker which will automatically transcribe videos. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg made the announcement by posting a video of his dog barking with the “woof woof woof’ caption on the screen.

Story captions is only available in “English and English-speaking countries” for now, The Verge reports, but Instagram will eventually make it available in other languages and more countries. Instagram also plans to begin testing automated captions in Reels soon.

Just like in Stories, caption users will be able to customize the text by changing the font, reducing the size and trying different colours. Most importantly, the captions can also be edited as they are not always accurate as people speak with many accents.

Instagram’s IGTV and Threads app already have captions but the company is introducing it to Stories for better accessibility. People that are deaf or have difficulty hearing will find it particularly and non-native English speakers will find it very useful.
