The option to book Uber rides directly from Google Maps has now been removed. AndroidPolice reports the feature was removed by Google without any reason, a feature which has also not been available on IOS version of Google Maps for a while.

Back in January last year, Sara McKinKey, Senior Project Manager from Google boasted in a blog post that Google Map users will be able to book Uber rides without ever leaving the app, even if Uber app was not installed. No reason has been given for removing the functionality, however, Google says you still check routes in Google Maps and then go request ride from the Uber app.

Report says the change itself may be from Uber and not Google as the company would prefer riders to use its app rather than Maps. Uber and Google have experienced a somewhat tumultuous relationship in the past with the Alphabet companying filing a lawsuit for stealing trade secrets. The case was later settled.
