It is common for people to fly drones now. They control the flying machine hovering above their heads with the traditional controller or the app launched on devices. Therefore, this is a list of some of the best drone apps for Android devices right now.
Best Drone Apps for Android Phones and Tablets
DroneDeploy
Price: Free
This is the official app for popular drone vendor, DJI. DJI is undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with in the drone business so it is befitting that they own an app that measures up to its standard. The app makes provisions for standard flight planning and an automated control for the drone being flown. All a user has to do is set the coordinates and the drone hovers over the selected routes. DroneDeploy certainly makes our list of the best drone apps for Android.
Google Earth
Price: Free
Although this isn’t a new thing, the first thing to figure out when trying to fly a drone is the location to do so. Google Earth is a very resourceful app which searches for the most conducive places to fly a drone and suggests so. Also, it is a free app and it has a web application too.
Hover
Price: Free
This is an app that really does not get every accolade it deserves. It functions in the same vein as Airmap: providing mapping and location awareness info. Then it has an additional function; it provides weather info. It displays the safest time to fly a drone and informs a user of an impending rainfall. It highlights when it is safe to fly a drone taking into cognizance the wind, location, visibility, etc.
Airmap
Price: Free
This is a tool that offers more than just showing a feasible flight location or recording flight logs. It is sponsored by Microsoft and Qualcomm and popular drone specialists like Yuneec. It is fast turning into the poster boy of commercial drone flights. It can map drones, log commercial flights and show traffic alerts on the app. What’s more, it is free!
B4UFly
Price: Free
If you are looking to get the most detailed and accurate airport listings around, this is the app for you. Asides that, it is a great drone flying application. It displays the 5-mile radius of each airport and gives a user one of the smoothest flying experience. Also, it displays the grey areas i.e. the areas where drones are not permissible to fly.
Sun Surveyor (Sun & Moon)
Price: $7.99
While using a drone, no shade is available out there. Therefore, it is important to know where the sun or moon will appear so improve accuracy. That’s just about that. Its efficacy is guaranteed.
It isn’t free though.!
Kittyhawk
Price: Free
Apps that dwell on weather and mapping have been discussed but Kittyhawk incorporates everything. It is an app that determines the safety of a flight through pre-flight checks and post-flight analysis. This is a recommended app to get your drone in the air and fly safely.
Pix4D
Price: Free
Buyer beware, this app is free, but the software behind it is not. That being said, Pix4D is a powerful 3D mapping tool for your drone. Much like DroneDeploy, Pix4D offers programmable flight routines for many popular drones, (not just DJI,) but then captures imaging data for advanced 2D and 3D output. As I say, you’ll need some expensive software on your PC to get the most out of this, but the output is pretty slick – at least in a commercial/business 3D mapping sense.
Verifly
Price: Free
This is a drone insurance app. However, it is different from the traditional insurance policy made for properties. The app records the start and finishes time of flights. After this, payment is made based on the time spent. This is way better than paying from start for something that might be under or overvalued. The starting price is $10/hr.
UAV Forecast
Price: Free
This is a specialized weather forecaster for drones. UAV Forecast aims at showing specific and accurate weather information to determine the safety of a potential flight. The app also highlights mapping for areas that are not suitable for flights.
Those are 10 of the best drone apps for Android devices right now. If you think of some other, let us know in the comments section.
