Apple on Wednesday announced an upgrade to its Vision Pro headset with the new M5 chip and a new head strap called the Dual Knit Band. The new Vision Pro features the visionOS 26, providing improved spatial experiences and support for Apple Intelligence features. Apple says the new head strap will help users “achieve an even more comfortable fit.”
With the new M5 chip, Apple says the Vision Pro renders “10 percent more pixels on the custom micro-OLED displays compared to the previous generation, resulting in a sharper image with crisper text and more detailed visuals.” Refresh rate on the Vision Pro is now up to 120Hz for reduced motion blur when users view their surroundings, and the experience is also now smoother on a Mac Virtual Display.
Apple says the upgraded Vision Pro has a high-performance battery, which now supports up to two and a half hours of general use, and up to three hours of video playback, on a single charge.
The Dual Knit Band features “upper and lower straps that are 3D-knitted as a single piece to create a unique dual-rib structure that provides cushioning, breathability, and stretch.” It is available in small, medium, and large sizes, and it comes with a Dial that users can fine-tune to achieve the ideal fit for their head. Users will be able to purchase it separately for $99, and it supports the original Vision Pro.
The new M5 Vision Pro costs the same as the $3,499 M2 Vision Pro. The new headset and the Dual Knit Band are available for pre-order, with availability expected from October 22nd. Customers can also book a demo at Apple Store locations near them.
