Apple today introduced its all-new iMac completely redesigned for the M1 chip. The new iMac features a very thin design and comes in a wide range of bright colours which will make it standout anywhere.
The new iMac features a 24-inch 4.5k Retina display with narrow borders and 11.3 million pixels, Apple says. At the bottom is a gigantic chin which is very noticeable. Thanks to its P3 wide colour gamut and more than a billion colours, images are now clearer and sharper than ever on the iMac.
The iMac now comes with a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, upgraded mics and speakers. Video calls are clearer than ever and audio quality is greatly improved. For the first time, Touch ID comes to the iMac with Apple adding support three models of Magic Keyboard designed to match the colour scheme of the iMac. Apple is also adding the Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad with matching colours.
With the combination of the M1 chip and macOS Big Sur, Apple says the iMac delivers up to 85 percent faster CPU performance, up to 2x faster GPU performance for select apps like Affinity Photo and Photoshop, ability to edit up to five streams of 4K footage or on 8K footage on Final Cut Pro without dropping a frame, and up to 3x faster machine learning in apps that use the power of the 16-core Neural Engine in M1.
The new iMac comes with two Thunderbolt ports at the back which means superfast data transfers and now support for up to a 6K display wired connection. The 8-core configuration adds two additional USB-C ports and a 1Gbps Ethernet port in the power adapter.
The new iMac can be pre-ordered on apple.com on Friday, April 30 and it will be available in the second half of May. The base model starts at $1,299 and is available in green, pink, blue, and silver.
