Today, Apple announced the iPhone 16e, its latest entry-level iPhone, replacing the third-generation iPhone SE, which was released in 2022. The previous iPhone SE was Apple’s last and only device with a Touch ID fingerprint button, but Apple has now replaced that with a notch for Face ID on the iPhone 16e, signalling the end of an era.

The iPhone 16e features a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display with OLED technology. Apple says the device has the “best battery life ever” on a 6.1-inch iPhone, up to six hours longer than the iPhone 11 and up to 12 hours longer than all previous generations of the iPhone SE.

The iPhone 16e is powered by the A18 chip, which provides support for Apple Intelligence and gives access to several AI-powered features, such as Image Playground, Genmoji, Writing Tools, and more.

The iPhone 16e is the first Apple device to feature Apple’s in-house 5G modem, C1. This represents a move away from Qualcomm’s modem, which powers the iPhone 16 lineup and all other iPhones over the years. Apple says its C1 is the “most efficient” modem ever on an iPhone, delivering fast and reliable 5G cellular connectivity.

The iPhone 16 features the Action Button, which can be customized to access various functions with a single tap. The Action Button also provides access to Visual Intelligence, which can “summarize and copy text, translate text between languages, detect phone numbers or email addresses with the option to add to contacts, identify an animal or plant, and more.”

At the back of the iPhone 16e is a 48MP camera with an integrated 2x Telephoto. It is capable of Night Mode and portrait mode and can record 4K videos with Dolby Vision up to 60 fps.

Regarding connectivity, the iPhone 16e has a USB-C port, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.3. It does not have MagSafe but is rated IP68 for water resistance.

The iPhone 16e will be available this Friday in white and black and will have storage capacities of 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB. It will start at $599.
