YouTube Introduces ‘Recap’ to Highlight Your Viewing Activity for the Year

For the first time, YouTube is introducing Recap, a feature that highlights the content you engaged with the most on the platform. The feature is similar to Spotify’s Wrapped and Apple Music’s Replay, which highlight users’ listening experience in a fun way that can be shared across various social media platforms.

“YouTube Recap uniquely highlights interests, deep dives, and moments you explored this year, based on your watch history,” YouTube announced in a blog post. “You’ll get a set of up to 12 different cards that spotlight your top channels, interests, and even the evolution of your viewing habits, or which personality type you fall into based on the videos you loved to watch!”

The feature is rolling out in North America and will be available to the rest of the world this week. Recap can be accessed on mobile and desktop on the homepage or under the “You” tab.

Just like with Spotify, YouTube recap has personalised cards based on your viewing habits. Users who watch more content that helps develop skills are assigned the “The Skill Builder” card; meanwhile, those who watch more of positivity content get “The Sunshiner” card, while “The Trailblazer” card is shown to viewers who are drawn to content that’s original and challenges the norm. Other available personality cards include “Dreamer,” the “Wonder Seeker,” the “Connector,” and many more.

YouTube says its Recap was launched upon “nine rounds of feedback and over 50 different concept testings.”

Subscribers of YouTube Music will also be able to see their recap, although this feature has been available for the past few years. Listeners will be shown their top artists, songs of the year, and many other personalised highlights on the YouTube Music app.
