Pluribus is now Apple TV’s biggest drama series debut ever, shattering the record previously held by the second season of Severance earlier in the year. The new drama series from Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul creator Vince Gilligan set a new viewership record in more than 100 markets, most notably in the U.S., UK, Canada, Brazil, Australia, Germany, Mexico, India, and France, Deadline reports.
As expected, Apple did not share the numbers other than confirming that the series has set a new viewership record on Apple TV. The viewership information has been corroborated by Nielsen Streaming Content Ratings, but official numbers will only be available in a couple of weeks.
Last week, Luminate reported that the first two episodes of Pluribus logged 6.4 million hours in the US in its first seven days of release. There have also been reports of Apple TV crashing due to high demand, which may be attributed to the show’s popularity.
Rarely has keeping the secret of a show we love so much been as fun or as rewarding an experience as it has been with Pluribus,” Matt Cherniss, Apple TV’s head of programming, told Deadline. “Vince’s strikingly inventive premise blew us away from the second we read it, and witnessing the brilliance with which he has brought this series to life is truly remarkable. “It’s a thrill to watch audiences worldwide get hooked on this thought-provoking, insightful, and darkly funny show rooted in humanity by an exceptional cast led by the talented Rhea Seehorn, and we can’t wait for viewers to dive deeper into the mystery.”
Pluribus stars Rhea Seehorn as Carol Sturka, the show’s main protagonist. Set in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the show follows best-selling author Carol, who is one of the only 13 people in the world immune to the effects of “the joining,” a sickness resulting from a virus that turned the human race into a collaborative hive mind.
