WhatsApp is introducing Message Summaries, a new feature that lets you call on Meta AI to summarise your unread messages in a chat quickly. With Message Summaries, Meta AI will soon create a bulleted summary of unread messages in chats, so you can quickly catch a glance at what you have missed so far.

WhatsApp says the AI-generated summaries are private thanks to its Private Processing Technology, which lets Meta AI generate responses that are still end-to-end encrypted.

Message Summaries is an optional feature that is turned off by default. Users can turn on/off in Settings at any time as they choose. WhatsApp also have an Advanced Chat Privacy setting that users can use to select which chats can be shared for AI purposes.

Message Summaries is rolling out to people in the United States in English for now. The company says it hopes to bring it to “other languages” and countries later in the year.
