If you missed the unboxing and first impressions of the device earlier, here is the TECNO Spark 2 review. Spark 2 comes after the release of the first Spark devices, K7 and K9 last year.
The device is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, runs on Android Go, has a 1GB RAM and a 16GB internal memory which is expandable up to 32GB via the SD card slot. See full specifications for the Spark 2.
TECNO Spark 2 Review: Pros and Cons
Pros
- 6.0 Full View HD display
- Android Go with Fast Optimization
- Fast Face ID recognition
Cons
- No 4G LTE
- Average Camera
Design and Display
No spectacular design comes with the Spark 2 but things were kept pretty neat. One thing that catches the eye, however, is the casing that comes with the smartphone, TECNO is has improved on that aspect moving on from leather/cloth/rubber-like cases to plastic ones which protect the devices to a certain degree.

In terms of display, the device features a 6” HD full view display with 75% screen to body aspect ratio.
OS and Performance
It is no news the device runs on Android Go, an operating system which is made for 1GB RAM devices to get the best out of it. Spark 2 is designed to be faster, has its own special suite of apps and special Play Store app. Instead of having the regular apps, we see the stripped down versions such as Google Go, Maps Go, YouTube Go, Gmail Go and lots more. Read more about the important features of Android Go.

The popular Android game, Candy Crush Saga ran smoothly on the device but running RAM intensive games on the device mean it would lag. Too many times, people expect a lot from budget devices forgetting it’s a budget smartphone for a reason, Spark 2 is a perfect budget device.

By default settings the Spark 2 comes with no app drawer, perhaps this is for a reason. To explore your apps, you only need to swipe to the left and right from the home screen. To bring out the launcher, you need to tap on a blank space on the home screen, navigate to Desktop setting and tap on Standard launcher. This brings out the app drawer.

Battery and Security
The device comes with a 3500mAh battery capacity but surprisingly it performs well, it takes a little above 2 hours to be fully charged and has a standby time of close to 17hrs.
Security options include fingerprint and a very effective face ID which unlocks very fast.
TECNO Spark 2 Review – Verdict
This is a budget device which delivers as promised, we give it a rating of 4.5 over 5.0. Spark 2 is available in stores and retails for N36,200. Buy from Jumia.
