Qualcomm has announced an upgrade to its flagship processor, the Snapdragon 888. The new Snapdragon 888 Plus was announced at the ongoing MWC 2021 and it features a faster CPU clock speed and an upgraded AI performance.
The CPU clock speed for the Snapdragon 888 Plus pushes the Kyro 680 to 3GHz from the previous 2.84GHz it was before. On the regular Snapdragon 888, the sixth-gen AI engine could only deliver 26 trillion operations per second (TOPS) in AI performance, the Plus model has now been bumped up to 32 TOPS which is around 20 percent more powerful.
All the other specifications remain the same from six months ago. The graphics is powered by Adreno 660 GPU, connectivity is still powered by the Snapdragon X60 5G modem with 7.5 Gbps top DL speed and FastConnect 6900 that brings fast download speeds to the current Wi-Fi model.
Smartphones powered by the new chipset are expected to be out in Q3 2021. Asus, Motorola, Xiaomi and Vivo have shown interest in launching devices with the chipset soon while Honor has confirmed it will power its Magic 3 flagship.
