The Baba Yaga is coming to the PlayStation 5. On Thursday, developer Saber Interactive announced that its next major project is a John Wick AAA game. The studio is working with franchise director Chad Stahelski, the Baba Yaga himself – Keanu Reeves, and Lionsgate to bring the game to life.
The game will be a single-player third-person action and it is currently in development for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Franchise lead actor, Keanu Reeves, is fully involved in the game and has been signed on “to reprise his iconic character’s look, voice and more.”
The gameplay’s story is set in the John Wick timeline years “before the Impossible Task”. It will expand on the franchise’s lore during that time, featuring familiar characters fans already know, as well as new ones created for the video game.
“The style of fighting will feel like an authentic John Wick action scene taken straight from the films,” Saber Interactive shared in a PlayStation blog post. “Everything is designed to faithfully mimic the movie experience in a meaningful, fully playable way. In order to achieve that, we are developing a distinct combat system from the ground up to ensure we stay credible to the iconic style of John Wick.”
Saber Interactive is best known for 2024’s Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, which sold more than 7 million units in its first year and earned multiple nominations at The Game Awards. Upcoming titles from the developer include Jurassic Park: Survival, John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando, and Turok: Origins.
