It has been in the news for a while, and it wasn’t much of a surprise when Microsoft finally announced its new handhelds during the Xbox Games Showcase 2025. In partnership with ASUS, Microsoft will release the ROG Xbox Ally and the ROG Xbox Ally X this holiday season in 2025.
The handheld’s grip mimics the design of the Xbox Wireless Controller and features an Xbox button, which can be used to trigger chat, apps, and settings. With the handhelds, players can play natively, via the cloud, or remotely with their Xbox console in another room. Microsoft says the handhelds are built “to make it easier than ever to access your favourite games – from Xbox, Battle.net, and other leading PC storefronts – all from a single device.”
The ROG Xbox Ally is powered by the AMD Ryzen Z2 A Processor, which balances performance and power consumption to maximise battery life without sacrificing gameplay quality. It is equipped with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD storage. The ROG Xbox Ally X is more powerful, featuring the AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, which enables higher frame rates, sharper visuals, and enhanced intelligence, according to Microsoft. It has 24GB of high-speed RAM and 1TB of SSD storage.
At launch this holiday, the handhelds will be available in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Microsoft hasn’t shared any pricing yet, but said it will be announced in the “coming months,” along with compatible accessories and pre-order information.
