People already have access to Meta AI on WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger, but Meta has now launched a standalone app, similar to Chatgpt and other AI apps. The Meta AI app is built using the company’s open-source Llama 4 language model, which includes voice prompt capabilities.

“While speaking with AI using your voice isn’t new, we’ve improved our underlying model with Llama 4 to bring you responses that feel more personal and relevant, and more conversational in tone,” Meta announced in a news post. “And the app integrates with other Meta AI features like image generation and editing, which can now all be done through a voice or text conversation with your AI assistant.”

Since this is the first version of the app, Meta notes that users may encounter technical issues or inconsistencies. With user feedback, the company aims to improve the app over time. The Meta AI app features a voice demo function that utilises full-duplex speech technology, allowing users to toggle it on or off. Currently, voice conversations are only available in the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

Meta says interacting with the AI app is more personal because of people’s experiences on other Meta platforms, such as Instagram and Facebook. You have control over your privacy, and you can instruct Meta AI to remember or exclude specific information when interacting.

The Meta AI app features a Discover feed, where users can share their AI experiences and explore how others are utilising AI. You can see the best prompts people are sharing, or remix them to make them your own. The Meta AI app is available on Android and iOS.
