Instagram has introduced a plethora of changes and has silently rolled out a lightweight version called “Instagram Lite” without an official announcement; Techcrunch reports.
Following in the footsteps of its parent company Facebook, Instagram Lite is just 573Kb in size and it can be downloaded on Google Play Store already. All basic Instagram operations can be carried out on the new app except for the ability to share videos or send DMs. Instagram announced it reached one billion users globally during the launch of its IGTV and the community is expected to grow more at a fast pace with low-end phone users expected to embrace the Lite version of the app when it’s rolled out officially.
4-Way Video Chats in Instagram DM
In a feature to rival Skype, you can now make live video chats with friends via the Direct Message and with groups not more than 4 people. The features are available with the newly released update to the app on Android and IOS. To start a video chat you must have started a DM with a friend and you only need to open the message thread, a new camera icon is now shown in the right corner of your screen and you only need to tap on it so your friend(s) see your video chat notification.
While on live video chats, you can minimize and still perform your normal operation on Instagram such as check feed, post stories, share photos and lots more. Video chats can also be made in group conversations with not more than 4 participants. Live videos go on for as long as you like and any member of the group chat can leave at any time. Instagram privacy settings are still maintained in video chats and people you’ve blocked or mute won’t be able to call you.
