Google Translate adds a New AI-Powered Pronunciation Tool

Google Translate Practice

Google is celebrating 20 years of Translate, and the company has added a new pronunciation practice tool, which the company says is one of its most requested features. Released in 2006, Google Translate now has more than 1 billion monthly users who use the platform to learn, speak, and connect with others.

The new pronunciation tool is rolling out on Android in the US and India, and is available in English, Spanish, and Hindi. When you translate, there is now a new ‘practice’ button that you can tap on. The pronunciation practice tool uses AI to analyse your speech and provide instant feedback, “helping you nail the right pronunciation before you start a real-world conversation,” Google says.

According to Google, Translate supports almost 250 languages, and more than 60,000 language pairs, including endangered and indigenous ones – that’s around 95 percent of the world’s population. Every month, 1 trillion words are translated using Google Translate. Around a third of people use the mobile app to learn and practice new languages, thanks to the launch of the AI-powered practice experience, which allows users to set specific learning goals and track daily progress.
