First-Generation Google Pixel will No Longer Get Updates from December

Google Pixel XL

Do you still remember the first Google Pixel and Pixel XL or are you an owner? The first Pixel devices which Google announced in 2016 heralded a new camera era for smartphones with Google now becoming the main rival to the Apple iPhones of this world. The first-generation Pixel device is nearing the end of its lifecycle as Google confirmed to The Verge it would get “one final software update” in December.

It would surprise many that the Pixel and the Pixel XL are running Android 10 already when most flagships from the likes of Samsung are still running Android 9. But this is the last Android version update the Pixel devices will be getting.

In November, Google released a security update for most of its Pixel smartphones except the original Pixel and Pixel XL. The Verge confirms the OGs will now get one final December security update which “encapsulates a variety of updates”.

If you still own the original Pixel or Pixel XL, it might be time to get the Pixel 4 or Pixel 4 XL.
