Gmail Now Lets You Add an Event Directly to Your Calendar from an Email

Google is rolling out a new Gemini AI-powered feature that automatically detects calendar-related content in an email. Once Gemini identifies such an email, a new “Add to Calendar” button will appear at the top of the email alongside the “Summarize this email” button.

To get started, Google Workspace admins must have innovative features and personalisation turned on. Once Gemini detects an email with an event, the “Add to Calendar” button appears. When a user clicks the button, a side panel opens in Gmail, confirming the event has been added to the user’s calendar. Users can still edit the event that has already been created on their calendar if they need to change something.

The feature is currently only available on the web and in English. Google says a calendar event created via the “Add to Calendar” button will not include other guests. Emails with already extracted events (such as flight bookings, restaurants, etc.) will not get the “Add to Calendar” button.

The feature is gradually rolling out for Workspace for business, enterprise, and education users and Google One AI Premium subscribers. Anyone who previously purchased the Gemini Business or Enterprise add-ons will also receive it.

Google has been rolling out new features to improve Gmail. Last October, the company updated Gmail’s summary cards to help users track events, purchases, and more.
