Spotify will now let its users follow their favourite venues to stay ahead of upcoming concerts and activities without leaving the app. The new feature is available to both free and premium users and is rolling out globally. Spotify says more than 20,000 venues are listed worldwide, and the feature will help users “connect to live music wherever they are.”
When a user follows a venue, it is added to their library so they can easily find it. Spotify will also recommend other venues it thinks the user might like. Users will be able to see scheduled concerts with date and time without leaving the app.
The feature is similar to “Concerts Near You” launched by the streaming giant in March. The company says more than 3 million people have now used it to discover events and concerts from their favourite artists. Concerts Near You is updated weekly, and there is now a Live Events Feed, which is updated daily. Live Events Feed shows the most relevant concerts in each user’s area, including newly announced gigs and global artists’ tours.
Once a user sees an event or concert they are interested in, booking a ticket is easy. Each event has a ticketing partner listed by Spotify, with the most popular being Ticketmaster and Live Nation. With just a tap, Spotify will direct interested users to the website of the ticketing partner to complete their purchase.
