MediaTek has announced a new 5G chipset, Dimensity 720 which is meant for mid-range devices. The chip is the first from the 700-series and devices running it are expected to be very cheap.
The chipset is built on a 7nm process with an octa-core CPU consisting of 2x Cortex-A76 cores and 6x Cortex-A55 cores. In terms of graphics, it comes with a Mali-G57 MC3 GPU. The chipset supports pairing with LPDRR4X RAM and UFS 2.1 storage.

Dimensity 700 supports 90Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ display, Bluetooth 5.1, advanced APU for machine learning, 4k video recording and 64MP cameras or a dual 20MP+16MP.
For connectivity, the chip supports the 5G sub-6GHz standard. MediaTek says its 5G UltraSave technology will reduced the high energy consumption by the 5G network.
The first set of smartphones running the chipset is expected to be launched in the following month with an estimated price of $200 – $220.
Great job by Mediatek. I guess the budget buyers would have their say in the 5G segment as well.
